Metgumbnerbone - "Death"

I have long been a fan of dark ambient, the music genre that I still feel perfectly embodies the creepiness of the Halloween season (and makes a perfect soundtrack for any yard haunt!). And as I continue to seek out more and different releases, I find myself discovering rarer sub-genres and releases to fill my growing library.

Case in point is this incredible track dating all the way back to 1985. I don't yet know much about Metgumbnerbone, outside of the fact that they are an obscure industrial/ritual ambient act from Newcastle, England, founded in 1983 and still recording today. But upon hearing this track, I'm definitely seeking out more of their work, because this one is really dark and haunting!

"Death" is on constant repeat as I'm working on props in the garage all weekend. Enjoy!

  

Asath Reon - "Three Times Burned And Three Times Born"

Fantastic ritual dark ambient from Slovakian artist, Asath Reon. This release has become one of my favorites and I'm 93.6% certain that this track will be used as the main soundtrack in my Cemetery display.

Arktau Eos - Catacomb Resonator

Every man is a catacomb resonator; our very being resounds with hidden desires, dreams of unknown origin, and deeper still, primordial voices of our buried ancestry. We are a labyrinth unto ourselves; and equally we stand as a totem-pole at the crossroads of a universe, gazing into distant horizons. We are a nameless grave from which the self divine may rise to witness new constellations light up on the darkening firmament.

It is this process which the sixth Arktau Eos album attempts to convey: led by abyssal psalmody, the sonic tapestry is interwoven with dusty, crackling electronics of a bygone era and other, subtler elements for an all-enveloping sound that readily lends itself to prolonged listening sessions.

I'm finishing the week off by going deep into the darkness. I absolutely love this release (along with another of their releases, Unworldes) and it's deep, hollow, dark ritual ambience is the perfect primer to set me in the direction of Autumn. Yard haunt prop work begins in earnest this weekend and this will be the soundtrack to power me through it. A prolonged listening session indeed.

ABSOLUTELY fantastic ritual dark ambient from Russian artist Asath Reon. So much atmospheric darkness in each track... I just stumbled upon this artist recently, but Underworld Narrations has been on a constant rotation here at the Cemetery.

I have already decided that the track Three Times Burned and Three Times Born will be the soundtrack to this year's Halloween display. It will be the PERFECT creepy supporting soundscape to give my display that extra punch. Completely haunting and horrifying, but unbelievably atmospheric and flowing.

Arktau Eos - Unworeldes

I discovered Arktau Eos, the Finnish ritual/dark ambient project, a few years ago and immediately connected with their sound and visual presentation. 

New Halloween costume idea, anyone?

I have always believed that the greater dark ambient genre was a perfect match with the desolate fall season, and more directly, Halloween night. And I tended to seek out those projects whose dark, atmospheric sounds could translate to use in home or pro haunt settings.

One such release is Unworeldes, from 2012:

I have been listening to this one quite a bit lately (and still searching for a rare copy of this on vinyl - wink, wink). The dark and foreboding sound really puts me into the needed headspace as I work on everything leading up to Halloween night.

And as an added treat for your eyes, could you imagine attending this Arktau Eos live presentation? One part concert, one part dark performance art. Completely mesmerizing...
