Here is surely the most bizarre, incredible version of Poe's infamous tale of madness. A disturbing animated short film created in 1953 by UPA, featuring a wonderful narration by James Mason. The nightmarish illustration and discordant music combine to create an effective creepiness that gives this short film a thorough sense of dread and makes it a very enjoyable watch.

"Canis" by Aleix Pitarch

The premise of Canis is two men are trapped in a house which is constantly under siege from a pack of wild dogs. This 15 minute black and white trip into world of handcrafted characters was quite simply put, intense. The story was dark, and one of the things that struck me was there was no dialog, only soundtrack (sounds of dogs and humans), and the score. The score performed by Aleix Pitarch, is 15 minutes of heavy distorted layered drones, monolithic static blasts and dark ambient industrial.

The Skeleton Dance, 1929

The night promises to be a scary one. Lightning flashes. The wind howls. A tree branch in the shape of a hand seems to grab for a frightened owl that spins its head around like a top. The clock on the church tower strikes midnight, sending the bats flying out of the belfry. Two cats on gravestones fight by pulling and stretching each other's noses like taffy. A skeleton rises from behind a gravestone, frightening the fur off the cats. But an owl's hooting scares it, and it retaliates by throwing its skull and knocking the bird's feathers off. It's time for the skeletons to dance; and they perform as no living creatures could.

Enjoy Disney's animated short from 1929, The Skeleton Dance. Directed by Walt Disney, animation by Ub Iwerks and music by Carl Stalling. It was the first of Disney's "Silly Symphony" animated shorts.

"Based on a true fairy tale"

As the silhouette of a lonely girl runs through the woods, something in the shadows is lurking her.

RED is an animated short film, which presents a new version of the classic tale "Little Red Riding Hood" by Charles Perrault. The directors Jorge Jaramillo and Carlo Guillot explore more thoroughly the drama, horror and realism of the story. A journey of feelings and moments, with visual and musical elements existing only to carry a clear and strong narrative.
In RED the directors based on traditional shadows animation, giving it a new perspective by using technology to create a new concept, while maintaining the visual and narrative force of the classic technique.

The production of the film was done almost entirely by the two directors and musician/composer Manuel Borda, who completed the story by reinforcing all emotions through it.

New Video Treats

I recently came upon two great, new videos that I had to share with the group. First up is MK12's "Follow The Sun," a crazy take on the famous concession stand short that used to play in movie theaters across the country.

Neomorphus

Transformation trough mutations stages. Evolution as a function gain is called neomorphic. Imaginary creatures adapt into an Ecosystem and the transformation of these habitats for these creatures generates a fantastic cycle.

The mutation symbolism is part of our experiences in that trajectory, changing places, finding a new spectrum, a new phase, evolving.

Neomorphus is the second movie created for the series of free mini-shorts named Praepostere, the first being "Adiantum pedatum" - made with stop-motion technique with the theme of unusual developments in a morbid visionary.
