The 15 Most Valuable Misfits Records Ever Sold On Discogs

Here is a quick Halloween-adjacent story and a fun little follow-up to this morning's Misfits "Halloween" music post.

Ever since I was a 14-year-old skate punk kid, the holy grails of punk record collecting have always been those rare early Glenn Danzig-era Misfits records. And ever since I was a 14-year-old skate punk kid, those rare early Misfits records have always been just out of reach for my wallet's liking.

Since then, I have been able to acquire a few Misfits gems for my collection, but most continue to allude my wallet's limit. And as their collectability continues to grow, their prices unfortunately follow right along.

I recently read this great little story on Discogs about the most valuable Misfits records ever sold on their site, and my jaw hit the floor. Unicorn gems of limited pressings, colored vinyl variants, and alternate record sleeves fetching prices into the FIVE FIGURES! Yikes!

At this point, I am resigned to winning the lottery in order to afford these rarities, but I at least have the music itself permanently burned into my brain.

Enjoy the eye-opening sale amounts for these records, and please note that I would gladly take them off of your hands in the odd instance that you might just have them laying around.

Just maybe not for those prices.

The Misfits - "Halloween"

Four weeks into October, and not one Misfits post?? Well, the obvious choice is...

Samhain - "Unholy Passion" (Original Mix)

Three weeks into the Halloween season without so much of a mention of anything Glenn Danzig?? That should be illegal!

As I get older (and somewhat wiser), I have grown to really appreciate Glenn Danzig's lesser-known second band, Samhain. Much darker and more complex than The Misfits (whom I still love!), with a fuller goth/horror rock sound. It was the perfect mix of the raw, unproduced sound of The Misfits and the darker, more mature subjects of Danzig. Samhain is definitely my sweet spot come Halloween season.

And at the top of the Samhain list is the original mix of "Unholy Passion," the first song off of the Unholy Passion EP released in 1985. This mix was raw! Lots of reverb with a unique flat echo on both the drums and guitar. But the kicker are the chimes at the end, adding the prefect creepy element to complete yet another Glenn Danzig masterpiece.

(For reference, the entire EP was remixed for the later Samhain boxset, and this song was "cleaned up" removing all of that glorious rawness. Skip it and go for the original.)

Enjoy!

Halloween Kids Misfits Boy

For Halloween, this trick-or-treater walks among us disguised as the iconic Misfits Fiend! Equipped with a Misfits candy bag to stash plenty of treats, this horror-kid is ready for all hell to break loose!

Great Misfits references in that description! This action figure has it all: amazing old school Halloween card art, a great Walk Among Us Ben Cooper-style Halloween costume, and an incredibly cool Misfits candy bag accessory that was an actual promotional trick-or-treat bag from the Walk Among Us vinyl reissue from way back in 1988. Super7 really did their horror punk homework on this one.

There are lots of great littleHalloween nicknacks that I pass on, but this little guy isn't one of them. This one went straight into the cart as soon as it was available. Grab your own little Misfits Boy (as well as the rest of the Halloween Kids line, if you're so inclined...) over at Super7 now!

Samhain - "The Howl"

There is a human slaughterhouse
Up on the hill
The road is red
And those who ignore
And those who pretend
It does not exist
End up in it's hull

My blood goes to work
I hear the howl

There is a grove of bleached bones
Where lupins vomit childrens limbs
Taking all their liberties
With parts of human anatomy
And in the hollow of a restless soul
Lies no remorse and no disgust
Every kill is clean and pure
Every thought is cleansed in growls

There is a grove of tortured forms
Where all is dark and deeds are foul
And those who ignore
And those who pretend
That the howl is a joke
Their children lie dead

My blood goes to work
I hear the howl...

Misfits Monday - Live Hitsville Passaic NJ, 1981

I recently discovered Toxic Swamp's killer YouTube channel, just full of old Misfits live show recordings from the late 70s through the early 80s. They even go a step further, creating outstanding cover art for each show, made to look like the classic old Blue Note jazz record covers from the 50's and 60s (this particular cover features great photos of Jerry and Glenn with devilock mohawks, which I had never seen before)!

Cover art courtesy of Toxic Swamp (YouTube).

The standout is the classic Hittsville Passaic, NJ show, recorded on Christmas night, 1981. It's easily the best sound out of any of the other live shows, and it features everything a killer punk show should be. Totally raw, totally rowdy, and totally fun! Glenn and the boys are really on it for this show, with great interaction with the crowd. It's easy to see why this live show has been bootlegged to vinyl, as it's one of their best live shows (except if you're their ex-guitarist, Bobby Steele...).

It looks like you have to go to the Toxic Swamp YouTube channel to watch it, but if you're even just a casual Misfits fan, it's totally worth it. Enjoy!

The Misfits - "Bloodfeast"

28 days into October and ZERO Misfits posts. What is wrong with me!? Anyway, guess what I'm listening to tonight as I carve my jacks?

Silent Horror - "London After Midnight"

I just discovered the band Silent Horror while taking another late night trip down the rabbit hole of all things Halloween music. Great horror punk to add to your seasonal playlists!

This particular track really burned its way deep into my brain. Fantastic vocals on this one.

Enjoy!

Samhain - "All Murder, All Guts, All Fun"

It's already the week of Halloween and I still haven't posted anything from Samhain!?

The Misfits - "Halloween" & "Halloween II"

It's already the week of Halloween and I still haven't posted anything from The Misfits!?

The Scooby Doo Misfits

I love the original Scooby Doo. And I love the original Misfits. So you KNOW that I love this!! Absolutely brilliant.

T.S.O.L. - "Silent Scream"

I'm the cobwebbed stairs, the ancient bones
I'm the shadow rippling cobblestones
I'm the stagnant swamp, the black lagoon
I'm the branches scratching at the moon
I'm the funeral service, the unknown mourner
I'm the demon cowering in the corner
I'm the sexton's spade, the new thrown clay
I'm what's left when they walk away
I'm the ebony coffin, satin lining
Pale thin lips in the back room dying
Pale thin lips in the back room dying

I'm the walking dead, the fly by night
I'm the last of the fading light
In the unbarred door, the open encasement
I'm the stairs leading down to the basement
The four post bed, the let down hair
I'm the cross that you forgot to wear
I'm the highest voltage, the shining slab
The crack of midnight in the doctor's lab
I'm the night before, the morning after
Echoing of the baron's laughter
Echoing of the baron's laughter

I'm Jonathan Harker, I'm Lucy's trance
Elegant count's hypnotic glance
I'm the wooden mallet, the sharpened stake
I'm the precautions you forgot to take
I'm the mummy's curse, the passing bell
I'm the fortune they wouldn't tell
I'm pyromania, Transylvania
I'm out of breath, I'm worse than death
I'm the late night air, exhilarating
I'm with you in the darkness, waiting

Samhain - "Possession"

Final Samhain Saturday track for the night! This track was scheduled to be on their unreleased final album, Samhain Grim, that was planned for 1988 (it was later released as a bootleg album called Final Descent in 1990).

Danzig fans should recognize this track, because after the break-up of Samhain in 1987, Glenn and Eerie Von went on to form Danzig, rerecording this track for the 1988 release of Danzig... but honestly, I love the raw, unpolished sound of this version better!

Samhain - "Unholy Passion"

Unholy passion, I feel for you
Dreadful emotion, that comes from here
This thing that hangs down my leg
I feel for you

No mistaking what THIS track is about! Samhain Saturday track number 4. Title track from their 1985 EP. This is the original (and much better) version of this song. I absolutely love the chimes in this track. They just sound so evil!

WARNING: There is some explicit art in the video clip below. It was the original explicit art that was featured on the cover of the record. So if you're easily offended, please turn back now.

But if you're totally awesome, scroll down and press play!

Samhain - "Archangel"

The beast is come to claim the youth...

Samhain Saturday track number 3. Another classic!

Samhain - "November's Fire"

Night calls on summer's end
Dark aspect, breed divine
Knee-deep, the blood of swine
Come season, come reborn...

Samhain Saturday track number 2. From their 1986 release, November Coming Fire.

Samhain - "The Howl"

Last Saturday, I decided to throw down some tracks from The Misfits. So many good tunes. So many memories...

For today, I thought I'd keep the horror punk theme going. Today I'm doing Samhain Saturday! Samhain. Glenn Danzig's short-lived band between The Misfits and Danzig. So underrated, but so, so good!

Gonna start with my favorite Samhain track to get things going...
