Black Mountain Transmitter - "Horror Rises From The Tomb"

Broadcasts from The Black Mountain: Black Radiophonics. Supernatural synthesizers. Zombie electronics. Lo-fi horror trash.

Happy Bandcamp Friday, everyone! Black Mountain Transmitter released a "new" track today to celebrate. Horror Rises From The Tomb was originally released on a limited cassette split back in 2024, but is now available digitally as a single on Bandcamp. A 15 minute dirge of reverbed, industrial ambient with undertones of classic horror creepiness, this track is another must-add for the Halloween season playlists or yard haunt audio tracks.

And today is the perfect day to do it, because on Bandcamp Friday, Bandcamp waives its revenue share so that artists and labels receive nearly all of the money from your purchase!

So go! Do it now! And enjoy this creepy cool track...

HAUNTED HOUSE: American Haunted House Advertisements Of the 1970s and 1980s

HAUNTED HOUSE features over 800 unique newspaper advertisements for American haunted houses of the 1970s and 1980s, the golden age of the local haunted attraction. The book spans twenty years and all fifty states and includes all manner of haunted attractions: haunted house, haunted hayrides, haunted forests, haunted alleyways, haunted theaters, and even includes other seasonal ads for drive-in spook shows and costume shops.

As an 80s Halloween kid, printed haunted house ads were an essential and core memory of the Halloween season. I would race home from school every Friday in October, grabbing the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper on the kitchen table. In it was the Friday weekend entertainment section, filled with pages of these local haunted house ads. I can still remember the smell of the black ink as it rubbed off onto my fingers and the crinkled feel of the newsprint paper in my hands as I quickly checked off the houses we had already visited and those we begged our parents to hit next. The spookier the ad, the higher on the list it went.

When I saw the pre-order ad come up for this book, I ordered it immediately. Those nostalgic memories came rushing back along with a big smile on my face. I cannot wait to get this, dive deep into the pages, and relive all those great haunted house memories.

This is a must-own for those of us old enough to remember all those great old ads and an essential history lesson for those who aren't.

"Return Of The Living Dead" Print #2 - Godmachine

MOOOORE BRAINSSS!

As I was posting the last Return Of The Living Dead Tarman illustration from British artist Godmachine, he dropped another one! And this one is just as good!

2 hand-numbered color variants of everyone's favorite undead stringy slime guy crawling out of a Trioxin 245 barrel, rendered in Godmachine's signature dark and menacing comic style.

Grab one for yourself (and throw in a matching shirt!) over at Cellar Door Gallery.

"Return Of The Living Dead" Print - Godmachine

More BRAINSSS!

I am loving this Return of the Living Dead illustration by British artist, Godmachine. A creepy, comic-styled rendering of Tarman that still maintains a wonderfully dark and menacing feel. So much nostalgia for the film and an unexpected source of inspiration for an upcoming prop in the works.

Grab a shirt, grab a hoodie, grab a duffle bag. All are available on the Haus Of Godmachine website.

Midnight Syndicate - "Plankett's Grove"

Hidden away in a remote mountain valley, the secluded village of Illswich was born from the ambition of its fortune-seeking founder. While outsiders might view it as nothing more than the dying remnants of a bygone age, those who call it home guard its secrets with unshakeable resolve. This CD features 53 minutes of immersive gothic folk horror and dark fantasy music and soundscapes with artwork by Pascal Casolari.

Plankett's Grove, the latest album from Midnight Syndicate, is out today! Another release full of their signature instrumental Gothic horror and Halloween sounds, it's perfectly timed for the lead up to All Hallow's Eve.

Things are beginning to get spooky and the air is turning crisp. We are getting closer! Enjoy.

HAVOK & Hellripper Announce Fall U.S. Tour

Oh my god oh my god oh my god! Hellripper is FINALLY coming to America!! I have waited about 10 years for the Scottish speed metal band to finally make it to the good ol' U.S.A. for a chance to see them live.

A totally stacked Fall 2026 U.S. Tour has just been announced with HAVOK,
Hellripper, Slackjaw and XOTH. I will be at the front of the line when tickets go on sale this Friday and I hope to see some of you in the pit in Cleveland on November 15th. I'm super stoked to catch both Hellripper and HAVOK! A perfect cure for the annual post-Halloween blues...

ALL HAIL THE GOAT!!!

Lustmord Lombardo - "Paleomagnetic Resonance"

The first single from the collaboration of
Lustmord & Dave Lombardo is out now. Lustmord, the pioneer of modern ambient electronic music, and Dave Lombardo, one of heavy music’s most influential percussionists, have joined forces as Lustmord Lombardo.

The debut album, The Pulse Of Atoms, is out October 2nd on Ipecac Recordings. Another must-have for me. Enjoy!

Cleveland Haunt Club Haunted Garage Sale & Hearse Cruise-In

It's that time of the year again! If anyone even remotely close to the Northeast Ohio area is looking for something to do tomorrow (Saturday, August 1st), they need to get to the annual
Cleveland Haunt Club Haunted Garage Sale & Hearse Cruise-In!

Now in its 11th year and at a new/larger location, the Haunted Garage Sale & Hearse Cruise-In should be pretty incredible. Over 140 vendor booths (with some big names!) this time around, so even the pickiest of Halloween shoppers should be able to find SOMETHING.

Peruse endless rows of vendors, check out the hearses, and get ready for Halloween with a slew of likeminded fanatics. Sounds like a plan...

Midnight Pumpkins

Better Halloweening Through Science!

Has anyone else seen these? I received this well-targeted Facebook ad and immediately had to check it out.
Salinas Nursery Garden Plants offers a variety (a cornucopia, if you will?) of colored and textured pumpkins, but none as cool as this Midnight Pumpkin. No paint, just a jet black pumpkin grown straight from the vine!

A little small for use as a jack-o-lantern, but would still make an incredible accent in any Halloween display. Get one now, because they ship as seedlings and will need 70 days to grow!

100 Days...

100 days until Halloween...

Things Begin To Stir At Highbury Cemetery...

An eternity of cold, lifeless slumber is abruptly shattered. Movement stirs within the undead crypt as frantic reanimation courses through once stagnant flesh. A distant bell beckons from the darkness, tolling the seasons’ metamorphosis. The tomb’s stone slab lid slides ever so slightly releasing a fiery amber glow. This awakening cannot be stopped, will not be stopped! A withered hand jolts skyward, breaking the silence of eternal rest. Blood red eyes cast a manic gaze into the blackened depths of a cold autumn night. And locked in the incessant grip of insatiable voracity… I rise from my grave.

I took another extended break from all things Halloween (just for the sake of my sanity) and had planned on making my triumphant return just in time for TransWorld. And Half Way To Halloween. And again for the Midwest Haunters Convention. And then again for the 4th of July...

But it kept getting pushed back because I just didn't feel "ready." The full commitment wasn't there, so I just kept kicking the can down the road. And now the "100 Days 'Til Halloween" posts are coming. Damn. The alarm bells began ringing and the decrepit old voice buried deep in the back of my rotting brain whispered, "It's time..."

A small but fiery glow from a single candle cracked the darkness of the Cemetery and reanimation began the yearning toward those chilled nights of Autumn.

The planning begins again as I revisit the long list of new ideas and old repairs. The full transition will continue over the next few weeks as the stream of all things Halloween begins to flow again, but for now the seal of the grave has been broken and things are once again stirring at Highbury Cemetery...

102 days until Halloween. Are you ready?
